This page is filled with things we love and things we want to try that don't center around alcohol.  Please look into any event or restaurant before visiting and determine if it's safe for you, as what is considered a safe environment varies for each person.
Restaurants / (Sober) Bars We've Tried & Love:
  • Sans Bar: Sober bar every Friday night with different themes each week
  • Funkadelic: Delicious brunch with counter service in a fun atmosphere.  No alcohol.  
  • Mattie's: Southern food.  The restaurant and grounds are stunning.  They do serve alcohol, as a FYI.  This is one of the few restaurants we have tried that actually has a few mocktails on their menu...and they're good.   You will need reservations.  
Past Activities (ongoing) We've Tried & Love:
  • Learn archery at Archery Training CenterLearn Olympic archery from skilled instructors.  Indoor (and outdoor). Cost: ~$25
  • Watch comedy (and classic movies) at the ParamountOngoing shows.  Great, intimate theater.   Alcohol is for purchase but seating doesn't accommodate drinks well.  Great artists like Ilana Glazer and Nick Offerman. Cost: Varies
  • Play flying disc golfZilker Park has 18 holes to play on (there are several other courses in the city as well).  Bring your own discs.  Cost: ~$5 for parking (lasts all day)
  • See a show Hillside Theater:  Outdoor theater in Zilker Park.  Performances usually at sunset during the warmer months..  Not always an event every weekend.  Ballet, Shakespeare, Orchestra to name few events hosted here.  Bring a picnic.  Alcohol is allowed (as a FYI) Cost: $5 for parking (lasts all day)
  • Learn aerials at Sky Candy:  Take a class and learn aerials.  Lyra, Pole, Silks, Hoop, Rope.  Every first Friday of the month is FirstFlyday, where there's special events and a potluck.  Price: Varies
  • Join a co-ed sports team:  Austin Sports and Social offers a number of co-ed sports you can play.  Ex: flag football, bocce, volleyball.  Series lasts 6-8 weeks. You don't need to provide a whole team to play on a team.  Price: Varies
  • Swim and Play @ Mabel Davis:  Huge pool (designated lap lanes, diving board, lifeguards, never packed), skate park, basketball courts, playground, and 1 mi loop walking path.  Well maintained.  Cost: $10 for the pool
  • Hideout Theatre Free Improv Class: 3rd Saturday each month.  Cost: Free
  • Murder Mystery Dinner @ Old Glory Ranch:  Apps, dinner, (optional beer/wine...just a fyi), murder mystery.  Cost: $80/pp. You can do your own murder mystery event with Murder for Hire (which is who Old Glory Ranch uses).
Upcoming Events We're Interested in: 
  • Blues on the Green: 7/17, 8/7.  Cost: Free
  • Faerie Trail By Moonlight 8-10pm 7/12 and 7/13.  Fire dancers and tour the faerie trail. Cost: $5 for adults
  • Snorkeling (and Scuba) Lessons: Tom's Dive & Swim: Ongoing - Also offering swim & scuba lessons. Cost: Varies
  • Hamilton Pool: Hiking and swimming at a natural water hole all summer. Requires reservations (which can be hard to get). Cost: $10/Car
  • Son's Island: Rent a cabana for a day.  Float, swim, slide, kayak, paddleboard, grill, camp.  Cost: $150-$200 for ~10 people for a full day cabana rental.  
  • Waterloo Adventures: Inflatable obstacle course on the lake. Ongoing event.  Cost: ~$55/pp
  • Volente Beach : Waterpark with screening of Jaws on the water. Ongoing event.  Price: $13-$25/pp
  • Schlitterbahn : Waterpark 40 min or so outside the city - Tons of rides and tubing.  Ongoing event.  Price: $55/pp.
  • Peter Pan Mini Golf: Outdoor course.  People can BYOB (just a fyi).  Cost: $10/pp (cash only).
  • Sound & Cinema: Free outdoor music followed by a movie.  Food trucks (note: Alcohol is available for purchase).  7/10, 7/31, 8/14.  Cost: Free
  • Make Pottery with Brave Ceramics: Pet bowls, vases, plates - several classes (ongoing), where you make your own pottery.  Next: Pottery Wheel Workshop 7/13. Cost: Varies.  ~$50
  • Hike the Greenbelt: Multiple entrances.  Rock climbing optional.  Swimming optional.  Cost: Free ($5 parking in some spots).
  • Climb Mt Bonnell: .5mi and 39 feet elevation.  Great views (don't do this in the afternoon during the summer, we have heard!).  Cost: Free
  • Austin Symphony Concerts in the Park: Every Sunday through Aug 25th - each week with a different focus (winds, brass, big band, etc). 7:30pm Cost: Free
